Men's Shed
BAYSIDE UNITING CHURCH Men's Shed |
What is a Men’s Shed?
The modern Men’s Shed is an updated version of the shed in the backyard that has long been a part of Australian culture.
The AIM of the Bayside Uniting Church Men’s Shed is to be open to all men who want a safe and non-judgemental environment in which to “hang about.” Members do not need to have an association with the Church.
Becoming a member of the Bayside Uniting Church Men’s Shed gives a man that safe and welcoming environment where he can find an atmosphere of old-fashioned mateship. And, importantly, there is no pressure. Men can just come and have a yarn and a cuppa if that is all they’re looking for – they don’t necessarily have to be involved actively in making “things.”
It’s not just for retired men but also for those who have found themselves retrenched as they transition either to a new life after work or while they search for a new job, or indeed for those who find their life in some sort of crisis.
Activities:
- Hanging about, having a yarn over a cup of tea or coffee.
- Working in the Shed with other men, making things, either for sale or for donation to a worthy group; it’s also a place to learn or teach modern or yesterday’s skills with others.
- Learning about one another, and participating and discussing with the occasional guest speaker men’s health issues in today’s society; also other matters such as travel, and financial and legal issues pertinent to the age group.
Bayside Uniting Church Men's Shed is affilated with the Australian Men's Shed Association
